A few random records and thoughts

So the new Twilight movie is out and I already started seeing people outside the theatre at the Arclight waiting in line. I was at the Amoeba record store in Hollywood and was walking back to my car around 11 pm. As we were walking back someone asked us if we were going to see the new movie? My friend's response was "Do I fucking look like a 16 year old girl?" I of course LOL and the couple seemed confused. One of my friends saw it and said it was the worse fucking movie ever, which I do not find hard to believe. I only saw the first one and it was terrible.

I picked up the Poison Idea at a great lil record store in Reseda Ca called CD exchange. Its the Taang version and it is on color. But from what i remembered it might be out of print by now. This is my favorite Poison Idea record. They played a few months ago in downtown LA and were pretty fucking awful. Still this record is the shit.

I also picked up Fleetwood Mac rumours for a buck. Don't laugh this record is really fucking good and for a buck you cant beat it.

The Iron Age ep is the European version and these covers were made for a fest to generate money for the label Dead And Gone. I actually like the limited sleeve and it came out pretty nice. There are only 65 of these. I think the label has a few of these left so act quick before they sell out.

BLOOD CUM -- DEATH BY A CLOTHES HANGER

You take a local thrash band from LA and have members of Slayer's little brothers in it and mix in a lil DRI and you have Bloodcum. I picked these up from ebay for pretty cheap. My friend Rich DC recommended them to me. Whats weird is that there is a thing about SXE in the lyric sheet. For some reason I cant tell if its poking fun at it or if one of the members was really edge. Not that it matters, the record is still pretty awesome despite the production. Keep in mind this was recorded around 87.

elliot smith figure 8 wall

Elliot Smith Figure 8 album over

I was never the Elliot Smith fan, a few of his songs are pretty good but thats about it. Ill leave this music to the people who are
depressed and drink PBR.

Here is the wall today....I was in Silverlake and drove by the wall and took a pic with my Iphone. Its pretty much destroyed a friend of mine was really bummed about it...like really bummed.

On a positive note, Marlon Hardpress label will be releasing a demo tape for Soul Search and I am now completely debt free. Peace out credit card you are payed off till I have to pay my car insurance.

INTEGRITY -- THE BLACKEST CURSE

INTEGRITY -- THE BLACKEST CURSE. INTEGRITY'S NEWEST ALBUM JUST DROPPED ON DEATHWISH. THIS CAME ON 3 COLORS AND I HAVE TO THANK MY BUDDIES @ DW FOR DOING SUCH AN AWESOME JOB. I HAVEN'T OPENED THEM YET CAUSE LIKE WITH MOST RELEASES THE ALBUM LEAKED ON THE NET 3 WEEKS AGO. THE COVER IS ACTUALLY PRETTY COOL AND IF YOU TILT IT AGAINST THE LIGHT YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE THE INTEGRITY SKULL. . INTEGRITY IS A GREAT LIVE BAND AND THEY ARE PLAYING THE CHAIN REACTION IN A FEW WEEKS.
I HAVE SEEN INTEGRITY LIVE AT LEAST 10 TIMES NOW. THE LAST TIME I SAW THEM WAS IN BALTIMORE AND I WAS WITH THE GUYS FROM TERROR. SEEING FRANK 3 GUN (TERROR AND FORMERS INTEGRITY BAND MEMBER) AND DWID LOOKING AT EACH OTHER LOOKED LIKE EITHER FISTS WERE GOING TO BE THROWN OR IT WAS GONNA BE A FRIENDLY REUNION HA. LETS JUST SAY THANK GOOD NESS THERE WASN'T ANY BAD BLOOD BETWEEN THEM.
THE JOCHUM BROTHERS DO AN EXCELLENT JOB OF WRITING MUSIC. DWID VOICE IS STILL UNHOLY LIKE AND ALL IN ALL FOR A BAND THAT HAS BEEN AROUND FOR ALMOST 20 YEARS NOW THIS ALBUM IS PRETTY AWESOME. IT ALMOST MAKES UP FOR THE INTEGRITY 2000 AND THE FORGETTABLE ALBUM PROJECT REGENESES.

I need your SHELTER!

Shelter -- When 20 Summers Past. I picked up this and Eternal on ebay for pretty cheap. Ive been meaning to buy When 20 Summers Past for quite a while. Actually this version is the original mix before Ken Olden remixed it for Century Media. His version actually sounds allot better. The mix on the Victory record is pretty week. Eternal is the final Shelter record and it is pretty hard to listen to.
I used to be the biggest Shelter fan, in fact i still talk to Franklin (bass player) at the gym all the time. He has told me some of the best tour stories.
I needed these records to complete my Shelter collection.

NAILS -- UNSILENT DEATH

NAILS -- UNSILENT DEATH. There are a few people who actually can thrive in the hardcore scene and move on to other projects and make them successful. Here are a few I can name off of the top of my head.
Ray Cappo
John Porcell
Scott Vogel
Walter Schriefels
Corey Williams
and Todd Jones.
Todd Jones new venture is Nails. Fucking metallic hardcore and it shreds. I actually have known Todd for quite a few years. The guy is a genius when it comes to music. His resume cannot be touched. He gave me this lp last week. I was pretty excited when I got it. Do your self a favor and pick up this lp asap cause I know it will be out of print after their upcoming tour.

Here is some footage I shot of them last week in Ventura.

SLAYER -- CHRIST ILLUSION

SLAYER -- CHRIST ILLUSION ON RED VINYL. Ok I have seen 2 of versions of this record. This is the limited version with the Jesus Cover and on red vinyl. The regular version has a hand covered in blood on the cover. I am a huge Slayer fan and their last few albums have been pretty brutal. In fact in makes up for their Diabolus In Musica album, which is fucking horrible. Per Wiki pedia
Depicting a mutilated Christ painted by longtime collaborator Larry Carroll, the album's graphic artwork courted controversy. An alternative cover was issued to conservative retailers who felt uncomfortable with the original. Lyrical themes, particularly in the song "Jihad" which describes the September 11 attacks from a terrorist perspective, outraged the Mumbai-based Catholic Secular Forum in India. As a result, all Indian stocks of the album were recalled and destroyed by EMI India.

I just saw Slayer recently perform on Jimmy Kimmel. 16 cabinets and 250 metalheads going nuts in a small venue on live television. The encore was the first 3 songs on Seasons in the Abyss.

sportswear, absolution and the abused

Brian Jordan was selling off the rest of his record collection and I picked up these 3 records. The first is the Sportswear lp on Supersoul and Goodlife. As weird as this sounds this lp is pretty hard to find. Yes they sound exactly like BOLD. But to me that is actually a good thing. I remember running into these guys in NYC when they were recording this lp.
The second is the Abused ep, which for some reason I thought was a bootleg but I am not sure. It is not the loud and clear ep which for some reason I didnt buy it when I was in Japan a few summers ago. I am still kicking myself for that one.
The third lp is the Absolution Discography lp on purple vinyl. I remember when this came out and I bought this on CD. I was pretty excited cause I didnt have a digital copy of Never ending game from the New Breed Comp. I was bummed when there was only a live version of one of the greatest NYHC songs of all time. Actually the sound quality is pretty flat on this and its mostly live songs.

OUR GANG -- UPRISINGS

OUR GANG -- UPRISINGS. I just got this in the mail this week. This is on Jack Roy records which might be a subsiderary of Gern Blandsten Records. This is the 1988 demo put on wax. This is fucking awesome, another NYHC hit. It still blows my mind how so many bands today cant even come close to this demo. As a bonus it comes with a download code and the first 300 are on blue vinyl. Do yourself a favor and get this asap!

CRO MAGS -- AGE OF QUARREL WITH RUN DMC LABELS

CRO MAGS -- AGE OF QUARREL WITH RUN DMC LABELS. I've only known of one other of these records in existence. It belong to Robby Redcheeks, who later sold it to Andy in Richmond, Va. I think Robby got his from Tony Pops (In My Eyes, Sinners and Saints, 10 Yard Fight, Etc) but I could be wrong.
Any ways, Dave Brown called me up from Va and told me that TKO records had one for sale at their shop in Huntington Beach. I just had my second interview with this company and was totally bumming till Dave told me about it.
I called up the shop and told them to put it on hold for me. I picked up Marlon from Lynwood and we rushed to get there. Two grueling Los Angeles traffic hours later we got there. We arrived when they were about to lock the doors. I got in there and purchased it right away along with a few questionable Oi records. I paid a hundread bucks for it.
These records look like any other record except the record labels have the Run Dmc Raising Hell label on one side and the regular labels on side B. Like I said I have seen only one of these ever, I assume their are a few out there. I have been on the hunt for this record for over 12 years now and I finally own it.

ZERO TOLERANCE -- FUEL THE FIRE DEMO EP

ZERO TOLERANCE -- FUEL THE FIRE DEMO EP. Reaper Records has just released the demo on vinyl. It also comes with a download code and I think the version I ordered has a small paper that is limited to 50. The demo is awesome and the bad eventually went on to become This World Rejected. Besides Slugfest this is probably the best band from the Buffalo area. I used to have a red ZT tshirt that had the Notre Dame fighting Irish logo that i gave to my good friend Brandon. If anybody has this shirt for trade let me know.

CONVERGE -- AXE TO FALL (TOUR VERSION)

CONVERGE -- AXE TO FALL (TOUR VERSION). These were sold on the last Converge tour and are limited to 500 on clear. Axe to Fall is an incredible album. The vinyl version is on Deathwish Inc. Funny thing is I ordered the yellow version from Epitaph and I still haven't received it. Converge is def one of the better bands on Epitaph.
The first time I saw Converge live was in DC at a little art Gallery in the corner of Georgetown. They played with Dive. Actually I still have my copy of Halo in a Haystack. Does anybody remember Dive?

BITTER END -- GUILTY AS CHARGED.

Daniel from Bitter End was in town this weekend to hang out. He gave me a copy of the new Bitter End Album Guilty As Charged. (no I cannot give you a copy) It will be released hopefully soon on Deathwish Inc this summer. If you liked the last ep and lp, the new lp crushes both of them. Bitter End will be touring the west and east coast this summer as well as Europe.
