Grinderman

Grinderman lp for record store day. Red vinyl for the single heathen child. I was at Amoeba today and saw another single on green vinyl. fuck

Dillinger Escape Plan with Mike Patton

Dillinger Escape Plan with Mike Patton repress on Epitaph. This is my favorite Dillinger record and Mike Patton's vocals are amazing on it. Its been out of print for ever. I still have it on black but I gave my orange to my ex gf or to her sister. ooof

The only mathrock band I can tolerate.

siouxsie and the banshees

siouxsie and the banshees -- face to face batman picture disc. I picked this up 6 months ago for 5 bucks at Cd exchange. I just pulled it out and I had no idea it was a picture disc. This was made for the second batman movie in the 90's.

Refused -- Songs to Flame the Fans of Discontent

Refused -- this is the repress on Epitaph. This record has been out of print forever and like most labels allot of their oop back catalog is being repressed on color vinyl. Smart move on the label and super cheap and only available thru the webstore. I seen this band a few times and I didnt appreciate them till after they were broken up. Great record.

converge -- no heroes

Converge -- No Heroes epitaph press. These were made for the Epitaph webstore only. I have no idea how many were pressed. In fact Converge is one of the few bands on this label that I still like.

Sweet Belly Freakdown

Sweet Belly Freakdown Lp on Jade Tree Records. Take the members of Swiz and add a lil rock to it and you have Sweet Belly Freakdown. I saw them perform in Philly at the Church with Damnation AD. They actually covered a Swiz Fury song when they played. I picked this record up for 8 bucks at Headline records in Hollywood. Shawn vocals are awesome and Jason Farrell music is great. I think I recently ran into the dude at the Scream reunions here in Hollywood.

murder city devils -- thelema

I originally had this as a 10" but sold it a few years ago because like most of their vinyl, mcd stuff was skyrocketing on ebay. I first saw them perform at the black kat with the explosion a few years back in DC. I saw them 2 years ago on their reunion tour where all of their vinyl has been resissue again on SUB POP. I picked it for 5 bucks as it has my favorite MCD song entitled 364 days. The song is about Santa Claus.

lyrics

n open letter to saint nicholas

Whiskey and cookies on the mantle
The children asleep wait for saint nick while they sleep we can drink
The tree is hung tribute to you and three hundred and sixty for days til I see you again
And a thousand more tears and a thousand more tears

Saint nicholas saint nicholas at the north pole 364 days spent all alone
Take off your boots pour a drink try not to cry try not to think

And you drink your eggnog and I'll drink my wine
Toast the season but just one more time
The morning is coming the whiskey is empty
The gifts have arrived saint nick has come and gone

Saint nicholas saint nicholas at the north pole 364 days spent all alone
Take off your boots pour a drink try not to cry try not to think

And it ends like it started the hugs and the kisses the bullshit flows the bullshit flows
You raise your bottle and I'll raise my flask toast christmas future and toast christmas past
And when they're all gone sit down in peace wait one more year and pour just one more drink

Saint nicholas saint nicholas at the north pole 364 days spent all alone
Take off your boots pour a drink try not to cry try not to think

Saint nicholas all alone

corrosion of conformity III

This is the new COC ep on Southern Lord Records. 3 new songs with the original line up minus Pepper Keenan. I personally like all the stuff without Pepper. A friend of mine told me the band reunited due to the fact they had a falling out with him. The ep is cheap and is on 180 gram vinyl. I picked this ep up at Rockaway records in Silverlake as well

from ashes rise

from ashes rise -- s/t lp. I picked this lp up for 5 bucks at Rockaway Records in Silverlake near Hollywood.

Rockaway is a local record store that my friend Ati brought me to a few years ago. Its a great record store that specializes in rare rock records ie Beatles, rolling stones, etc. If youre looking for a new mint sealed Beatles "Yesterday and Today" butcher babies cover and have 15 grand to spend then that is the place you should go to. They have 4 of them.

The hardcore and punk is mixed in with the rock records, so you have to do some digging, its not like a gold mine like TKO or Amoeba, but its pretty decent. Also if youre a douchebag hipster blogger, Silverlake is def your area.

OFF -- BOX SET

Last friday was OFF's record release for their 4 ep box set on Vice Records. Yes the same magazine about hipster life on MTV put this out. Its really nice it comes with the 4 eps, booklet and interview with the artist Ray Pettibone (black flag, sonic youth, etc) and a download code. It is def worth the 20 bucks and I have no idea how limited it is. OFF record release show got moved and we only got in for the final 2 songs. So that is what I recorded. I think they are awesome but I have heard mixed reviews. Keith's vocals are great. The total box set clocks in under 15 minutes.
Below is an earlier free show they performed a few months ago for the first ep at Amoeba in Hollywood.

Minus and Hardside

I picked up the Minus demo ep at the show last week in Fullerton. They had made 35 limited covers with what appears to be Ray Lewis from the Baltimore Ravens on the cover. This is the vinyl version of the demo on Flatspot Records

Hardside is a band from Texas that just recently put out their debut EP on 6131 records. Ely from Bitter End sent me the demo of the band to pass on to some friends that might be interested. I sent the demo to Joey. This ep is 10,000 times better then the demo. This is their first tour on the west coast and they did a limited "lady gaga" cover to 50 copies. I wish they did a brown pride or tango blast cover instead (see gangland season 5 notorious texas gangs).

ALL PIGS MUST DIE!

All Pigs Must Die consists of members of the Hope conspiracy, Converge plus. I assume they took their name from Death In June. Limited to only 850 copies this 12" ep is brutal. You can do no wrong with Kevin's vocals. The music is really powerful and fast. The record is pressed on 180 gram vinyl and it comes with a gatefold cover. The artwork is done by Florian. It comes with a download code as well. I know they are playing shows in January and are recording a new lp right now. Dont sleep on this cause it will be out of print soon.

Some randoms

I picked up the end to end ep from amoeba. Great record on Foundation records. I consider Dan Rawe one of my my closest friends. He was the person who basically ran the label.
I thought i had the Half Off "shoot guns eat pussy" ep but i mustve traded it away or sold it. I picked up another copy for 4.99 on grey vinyl. I have no idea what the pressing info on this record is.
Dusted Angel is a band made up by members of B'last. I havent heard the full length but the ep was nothing great. I know they are playing a few shows with Fu Manchu in 2011. I might have to check it out.
I trade the Vile lp to my buddy Dave in Richmond Va. Painkiller still have these in stock so i picked up another copy for myself. Great band from Mass. Parts Unknown pressed only 500 of these on 180 gram vinyl with a gatefold cover.

Battle Ruins

Battle Ruins ep on Rock N Roll Disgrace records. Limited to only 300 copies, this might be my favorite ep this year. The demo was released in 2009, but I just found out about it a month ago. Omar from Soul Search told me that the members of Rival Mob had an oi band. He sent me the demo and I instantly was a fan. I actually like this more than the Rival Mob. Best american oi band Ive heard since New Glory. I got the record from Vinyl Conflict in Richmond Va. Great store ran by the dudes from Direct Control and Government Warning (I think). My buddy Dave Brown told me he picked up the ep from that store. Luckily I got the last copy. Do yourself a favor and picked this up asap!

The Rival Mob and The Mongoloids west coast weekend.

The Rival Mob and the Mongoloids just recently did a weekend in southern California. We saw the show at a house in Garden Grove which I named it the Mosh Mansion. It is runned by 2 dudes who I swore looked like the guys out of the movie "Good Burger." A really cool place and both bands were selling merch and records. I picked up the Rival Mobs ep hc for the hc. My preorder from Six Feet Under still has no arrived yet and I wanted to hear this. I also picked up the Mongoloids ep which they did a limited cover for the weekend of shows. I taped boths bands sets the lighting and sound isnt so hot but keep in mind this was at a house. Allot of Props for Nate Xibalba for doing the shows. They were allot of fun.

IMMORAL DISCIPLINE

I picked up these 2 Ep's from Tre off of ebay. I paid like 14 and 20 bucks for each.....stupidly I had no idea discord is selling them for 4 bucks.....oooof!
I never saw them live, in fact I always used to see their records for sale at Smash Records. Smash put out the record with DSI. Smash was also the local punk hc record store in DC. They have 2 songs on the US of Oi comp, these 2 eps and maybe a demo. There was going to be a discography cd released last year but I am not sure if it ever got released?

young republicans

More Than a Witness just released the Young Republicans ep. This is the preorder version out of 150. It has a limited table cloth like cover and it comes with a lyric sheet as well as a download code. They did a really nice job with it. Here is the description per mtw records website. Sarah Palin would even approve ;)

The Young Republicans were a snot-nosed foursome of skinheads who lived in suburban upstate New York near the Connecticut border. Their demo cassette from late 1983 has been one of the most speculated upon and infamous demos in the history of hardcore; some claimed to have heard it, some old-timers claimed they had the demo cassette in their closet only to not deliver anything, and previously the only known copy was hoarded by the owner, refusing to tape it for anyone, including band members.

Perhaps the Young Republicans are best known for what they'd become: 75% of the band (Porcell, Darren Pesce, & Graham Phillips) would later form Youth of Today with Ray Cappo who was playing in Violent Children & Reflex From Pain at the time. The Young Republicans formed the majority of Youth of Today and this lineup recorded the "Can't Close My Eyes" 7" and the rest is history...

This 9 song EP captures the absolute essence of spirited hardcore under the shroud of Reagan: snot-nosed teens going faster MPH while standing in opposition to teachers, parents, rednecks, & suburbia. Highly catchy & classic sounding, this could easily be considered the crucial missing NYHC or CT 7" EP from 1983.

Three tracks on this Young Republicans 7" EP would later be reworked and rerecorded for the debut Youth of Today "Can't Close My Eyes" 7" on Positive Force; "Respect For Authority (None)" became "Stabbed In The Back", "Backyard Bomb" became "Expectations", and "High School Rednecks" became Project X's "Straightedge Revenge" note for note on their sole 7" EP on Schism.

SLAYER, New Order, Helmet

On black friday a few weeks ago there was another record store day event. This time I went to this store in Burbank and picked up the Slayer -- World Painted Blood single for 5.99. The bside on this record is Atrocity Vendor. I think there are 3000 of these singles pressed but dont quote me. At the same record store I also picked up New Order Blue Monday single for 1.99. Its in a shape of a floppy disk. In the biographical film of Factory Records "24 Hour Party People", Tony Wilson explains how they lost 2 bucks on every one of the record they had pressed due to the packaging.
Also I had no idea Helmet was still releasing records after Aftertaste. This one is called Monochrome on Cargo records. Its not horrible but it is also not great. The last time I saw Helmet play was opening for Faith No More at the Boathouse in Va Beach.
